Sotto
Last updated: 5 September 2026
Sotto does not collect any data. There is no account, no server that receives your recordings, and no analytics. Your audio, transcripts and summaries are created and stored on your iPhone and stay there unless you export them yourself.
This policy describes what Sotto does with information on your device, and the small number of cases where the app touches the network. It is written to be checked rather than trusted: the section on verifying the claim explains how to confirm it yourself.
All of the following are stored only in Sotto's private storage area on your iPhone or iPad:
Deleting a recording in the app deletes its audio and text. Deleting the app removes everything Sotto has stored.
Sotto is designed to work offline, but it is not accurate to say it never makes a network request. There are three cases, and none of them involves your recordings.
| When | What is sent | To whom |
|---|---|---|
| First time you use speaker labelling | A request to download the speaker-labelling models. No audio, text or identifiers are sent. | The FluidInference model host |
| Opening the upgrade screen, or purchasing | Handled entirely by Apple's App Store. Sotto never sees your payment details. | Apple |
| Tapping a link in the app | Opens the page in your browser, as any link does. | The linked site |
The model download happens once. After it completes, speaker labelling works with no network connection at all.
Sotto includes a setting called Include recordings in device backups, which is off by default. While it is off, your recordings are excluded from iCloud and computer backups, so no copy of them leaves the device.
If you turn it on, your recordings will be included in whatever backup you have configured. That copy is governed by Apple's terms and your iCloud settings, not by this app. The setting exists because some people want their recordings to survive a lost phone; it is off by default because a backup is an off-device copy and the app should not make one without you choosing it.
Sotto can export a recording as text, Markdown, SRT, WebVTT, JSON, or the original audio file. Exporting is always something you start. Once you share an exported file — by email, message, or into another app — it is outside Sotto, and how it is handled is up to the app or service you sent it to.
Sotto Pro is sold through the App Store. Apple processes the payment and tells the app only whether a valid purchase exists. Sotto never receives your name, payment method, or Apple Account details. Refunds and billing questions are handled by Apple.
Sotto does not ask for contacts, location, photos, or your calendar, because it does not use them.
Laws about recording conversations differ by country and by state, and some require the consent of everyone present. Sotto includes a consent reminder and an optional start-of-recording tone to help, but complying with the rules that apply to you is your responsibility. Sotto is a recorder, not a legal adviser.
Sotto is not directed at children and collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
These laws give you rights to access, correct, export and delete personal data a company holds about you. Sotto holds none: there is no server, no account, and no record of you anywhere outside your own device. There is therefore nothing for us to look up, hand over, or erase.
Your data is under your direct control. You can export it from the app at any time in six formats, and delete it by deleting a recording or the app.
A privacy promise you cannot check is just marketing. Once the speaker-labelling models have downloaded, you can turn on Airplane Mode and record, transcribe, label speakers and summarise with the network completely off. Everything continues to work, because none of it was ever leaving the device.
If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page changes with it. If a future version of Sotto ever collects anything, that will be stated here plainly and before it happens.
